Microsoft Office 365 contunues to expand its presence in the SME marketplace. The price has been reduced slightly from the initail launch prices and reliability continues to be solid.
This is big news as this is a major push for cloud computing and Microsoft does has seriours clout. So what is Office 365. In a nutshell it provides cloud based Exchange hosting and a sharepoint 2010 sites with integrated access to Microsoft's IM product Lync (but not the recently purchased Skype) plus the ability to access and use Web based versions of Word, Excel and Powerpoint.
All this is available for a monthly fee. Data is stored in the two European Microsoft DataCentres in Dublin and Amsterdam.
With one purchase Microsoft is offering to host your mail server and that alone is a good deal as it removes hardware requirements, IT support, power consumption and the on-going management issues with Microsoft Server solutions.
A number of our clients are looking at it and expect to move forward with Office 365 and embrace the cloud.
